John Lennon covers this Arthur Alexander tune (he's the guy who had a hit with "Anna," which the Beatles covered early on) with soul and conviction...a really great record. (Marshall Crenshaw, who played John in a touring production of "Beatlemania," did a fine version on his first album.)VP81955https://www.blogger.com/profile/11792390726196611188noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4713361080598913590.post-50329899795351894922012-12-24T08:52:50.236-05:002012-12-24T08:52:50.236-05:00Interesting choices...though this McCartney fan wo...Interesting choices...though this McCartney fan would have to substitute three of them with "Things We Said Today," "I've Just Seen A Face" and "I'm Down" (Paul channeling his inner Little Richard).VP81955https://www.blogger.com/profile/11792390726196611188noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4713361080598913590.post-34753028775499533712012-11-27T18:58:49.964-05:002012-11-27T18:58:49.964-05:00Hi Runell, just wanted to let you know I've gi...Hi Runell, just wanted to let you know I've given you a 'Versatile Blogger' Award, the details are at my blog www.ohsoveryclassic.blogspot.com Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4713361080598913590.post-22570430192093173692012-11-13T20:28:37.265-05:002012-11-13T20:28:37.265-05:00My faves are probably PENNY LANE and TICKET TO RID...My faves are probably PENNY LANE and TICKET TO RIDE (though I may like the Carpenters' slowed-down version even better). Felt the same way in '64, and believe it or not, all these years later I'm still reluctant to fully enjoy them!!! "Yesterday" would be my top pick from those you've chosen.<br />Many, many thanks for your excellent selection and comments!azw596https://www.blogger.com/profile/09991584636629141523noreply@blogger.com
